housing built for I Don't Blame the Beautiful Game
To achieve the effect of the ball flying straight into the lens I built a small camera housing using scrap mdf, metal L bars and plumbers pipe for the skeleton, weight-lifting plates for stabilization, and heavy duty scratch-resistant acrylic for the front. Version 1, on the left, had a few problems. The entire housing moved upon impact because it was too light. The acrylic window wobbled because it was too thin, causing the footage to distort. The window also scratched up easily which meant it would need to be replaced after every few takes. Version 2 added adjustable rubber feet, replaced the window with a thicker, scratch-resistant acrylic and extended the plumbers pipe on the sides to hold weight-lifting plates.
